Six schools from northeastern Canada to the southwestern United States have received PTDI (Professional Truck Driver Institute) course certification. In addition, another four programs have been recertified for five years, which brings the total number of schools offering certified courses to 65.

The six new schools are Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown, Del.; Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three locations of Smith & Solomon School of Tractor Trailer Driving in Cherry Hill, N.J., Edison, N.J., and Philadelphia, Penn.; and Veri Institute of Professional Truck Driving, Exeter, Ontario, Canada.
The PTDI revised the certification process in 1998 to include changes in skill standards, curriculum guidelines and certification procedures. This process includes an onsite evaluation team which examines the school's existing standards, procedures and practices.
