Freightliner Corp. has announced plans for an $11.4 million expansion to its Gaffney, SC, plant for production of a new light commercial vehicle.
The facility currently builds chassis for walk-in delivery vans, motorhomes, school buses and shuttle buses.
"Our (Gaffney) employees have been able to develop a host of new products, including our school bus product, and bring them to market rapidly for multiple vocations," noted Freightliner President Jim Hebe. "Their proven track record makes it the ideal facility to diversify further our light commercial product line and reach an even wider scope of North American vehicle cusotmers."
The new light duty van will be used in parcel and general delivery, passenger transport and shuttle, and a variety of service applications. The 58,000 square foot plant addition is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2001. It will add approximately 100 jobs to the Gaffney operation.
