The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has increased the hours of its toll-free driver hotline to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for federal holidays.

The hotline, 1-888-DOT-SAFT, allows drivers to report safety violations. The agency will investigate reliable allegations of safety violations that have occurred within the preceding 60 days and take enforcement action if necessary. Drivers are assured of the confidentiality of their identity.
The extension of the hotline hours was called for in the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999, which formed the new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Drivers also can download the safety violation form from the internet at www.fmcsa.dot.gov/factsfigs/formpubs.htm. The form can then be submitted by fax or by mail.
