The number of trucks crossing the U.S.-Mexican border near Laredo, TX, has risen more than 50% since last weekend's opening of a new international bridge.

According to published reports, the head of Laredo's Chamber of Commerce says the number of trucks crossing the border was more than 1,400 on Saturday, compared to a previous maximum of 900-900 a day through the two downtown bridges, which are now closed to truck traffic.
The eight-lane World Trade Bridge opened Saturday, and is expected to cut traffic jams and lines of trucks waiting to cross into Mexico along I-35.
