Magna, the Toronto-based Tier 1 automotive supplier, intends to play significant role in the trucking industry through a joint venture with German seat supplier Grammar AG.

Gra Mag Truck Interior Systems, based in Novi, MI, will begin by supplying high-end seats and interiors to truck makers. The company plans to open a plant in Columbus, OH this summer and will be the standard seat supplier for a new truck model expected to be launch in March, 2001.
The new seats will incorporate suspension technology perfected by Grammar and ergonomic elements from Magna such as seat belts integrated into the seat back and a patented fabric which absorbs sweat and eliminates odor.
"We have access to a full bio science lab to optimize seats for drivers," says Gra Mag president Bob Adams. "Our seats are optimized for the human body."
Adams said Gra Mag also plans to design and build entire truck interiors which will take a very different approach than existing interiors. "They will redefine that space," he said.
