Western Star Trucks has announced an unscheduled two week shutdown at its Kelowna, BC, truck plant early in April. The company blamed a softening North American Class 8 truck market plus high dealer inventories.
Western Star assembles 31 trucks a day at Kelowna and 3 a day at its new North Charleston, SC, plant opened late last year.
Kenworth, Peterbilt, International and Volvo have also announced shutdowns and production cutbacks.
