Three International manufacturing facilities have received ISO 14001 certification which means they have met worldwide management standards for environmental processes and system performance.

The three facilities are the Melrose Park, IL, engine and technical center, which builds the International DT 466E and 530E engines; the Indianapolis engine plant, which manufactures the International T44E engine and the PowerStroke engine; and the Indianapolis foundry operations.
In 1991 the Navistar International board of directors approved and published an Environmental Protection Policy to guide the company. Since 1992 it has received 35 environmental awards and recognition from state and local governments, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Canadian Ministry of Environment, and various recycling and water organizations.
