Truck manufacturing executives at the RAI European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam predict that the western European market will remain at 1999 levels this year, or possibly drop a bit.

Underlying demand is strong, investment is running high, and the transport business is buoyant, Volvo Truck Corp. President and CEO Karl-Erling Trogen told Reuters news service. Iveco VP Franco Fenoglio said they also believe the market will remain stable.
Dieter Zetsche, head of DaimlerChrysler's commercial vehicles division, said they expect a slight downturn.
