Phoenix-based Swift Transportation will break ground today for its new Salt Lake City facility.

The new facility will be built on a 29-acre parcel and consist of a 12,000-square-foot office building, a 24,000-square-foot maintenance building, a two-lane fuel island and a truck wash. The facility is expected to cost approximately $7 million.
"We believe this expansion will allow us to double our business in Utah over the next three years," said Jerry Moyes, chairman and chief executive officer. The company currently has 275 tractors assigned to the Salt Lake facility, and expects to increase the number to 550 over the next three years.
Swift is the third largest publicly-held national truckload carrier in the United States with regional operations throughout the continental United States.
