Comdata has signed an agreement with Hughes Network Systems that allows Comdata to become a value-added provider of very small aperture terminal (VSAT) systems to truckstops, travel plazas and card lock customers.
Before VSAT systems were available, credit card verification, debit transfers and point-of-sale transactions had to be carried over analog telephone lines, resulting in slower service to customers. The VSAT system sends this data more rapidly, digitally via satellite.
Comdata will be able to sell Hughes VSAT systems to its Merchant Services customers with a more competitive pricing structure than these customers could receive on their own. Hughes will provide installation and technical expertise, while Comdata provides customer support.
