If you're traveling one of four bridges linking Delaware with southern New Jersey or southeastern Pennsylvania, you'll be paying higher tolls later this summer.
Toll increases approved last week will take effect when the new E-ZPass electronic toll system is finished. Officials expect that to be between late July and September.
The Delaware River Port Authority says it needs the increases to fund $756 million in capital projects in its five-year budget plan. It has earmarked about $500 million for bridge and rail improvements.
The cost for a five-axle tractor-trailer will go up from $15 to $22.50. For those equipped with EZPass, the cost will be $20.25. For cars the bridge toll is increasing from $2 to $3. Bridge tolls have gone up three times in the past 20 years, most recently in 1992.
