About four years ago, a Pennsylvania court issued a temporary injunction forcing turnpike officials to close two sections of the Plainfield Service Plaza to truckers. The plaza, located a few miles west of Harrisburg, generated complaints from area residents and the local township about problems such as noise and prostitution.
A motion to make the temporary injunction permanent is scheduled for mid-June.
While Turnpike Authority officials could not comment for legal reasons, a source close to the turnpike did tell us they are pushing to have all of the Plainfield Service Plaza reopened to truckers. Federal officials and members of the American Trucking Assns. are expected to testify about the shortage of truck parking across the United States.
