Members of the Texas House Transportation Committee are in no hurry to consider a bill calling for uniform speed limits for cars and trucks on many Texas highways, according to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Assn.

According to Nathan Ziegler, chief of staff for Texas Rep. Carl Isett, no target date has been set for HB 676 to be heard. Ziegler tells OOIDA that “committee staff members are under the impression that truckers don’t want the higher speed limits.”
HB 676, authored by Reps. Isett, Hardcastle, Chisum, Hupp and Palmer, would order a uniform 70-mph speed limit for both cars and trucks on rural interstates and all numbered highways, including farm-to-market and ranch-to-market roads.
