Oct. 8 – The Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Assns. has introduced a major upgrade to the Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards. The first products released under the new VMRS 2000 banner are Code Key 33 and Code Key 34, available together on a single diskette.
The entire VMRS 2000 Coding Convention is available electronically. The release of Code Keys 1 through 80 include modifications to Code Keys 1 (equipment activity), 2 (equipment category), 10 (trailer body type) and 48 (special body type) made at the request of various industry segments.
VMRS 2000 has increased the capacity of Code Key 33 to track vehicle systems by adding a ninth digit to the basic eight-digit code. It reviewed Code Key 34 for inconsistencies in coding, language and descriptions; revised Code Key 34; and expanded Code Keys 1, 2, 10 and 46. It also added position codes to VMRS and improved the VMRS Implementation Handbook.
