Sept. 25 – The Arkansas Highway Commission voted Tuesday to increase speed limits on a number of highways.
Suburban interstate speed limits will be raised from 60 mph to 65 mph, and Little Rock’s urban interstate speed limits will go from 55 mph to 60 mph. Speed limits on most rural four-lane highways will be raised to 65 mph, but the limit will stay at 60 on U.S. 65 between Arkansas 425 and Linwood and from Arkansas 208 south because of ongoing road construction.
The move was based on a 31-page report by a speed limit task force at the state Highway and Transportation Department. The report recommended keeping the 70-mph speed limit for cars and 65 mph for trucks on rural interstates.
