Sept. 22 — Navistar International Corp. and Siemens Automotive Systems Group have announced their intent to form a joint venture to develop proprietary “next generation” diesel fuel injectors using digital valve technology.
Under the joint venture, Siemens and Navistar will co-manufacture electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated high-pressure injectors for use in diesel fuel systems designed and manufactured by Navistar’s Engine & Foundry Div.
This digital valve technology is expected to be on the market between 2001 and 2002. It will more precisely control fuel injection and improve performance, according to the companies. It also is expected to help Navistar and its customers meet reduced diesel emission standards in advance of the 2004 compliance deadline.
