Mississippi has become the 12th state to join Heavy Vehicle Electronic License Plate (HELP) and will become the first Southern state to offer its PrePass weigh station bypass service.
The state believes the service will create more free-flowing, cost-effective and efficient operations at its busiest weigh stations. PrePass will allow trucks in Mississippi to be weighed electronically and checked for compliance of state-required operating, safety and registration credentials as they drive by weigh stations and ports of entry. An in-cab transponder identifies the vehicle to the inspection facility computer to verify credentials, while a weigh-in motion-sensor counts and measures the distance between axles and calculates total gross and axle weight.
