Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling an estimated 9,471 2016-2017 Metris vehicles due to a power steering issue.

Specifically, aluminum bolts that attach the power steering gear assist motor to the gear housing may corrode and fracture, causing a reduction or complete loss of power steering assist.

In the event this occurs, steering the vehicle would require a higher effort on the part of the driver, especially at lower speeds, which increases the likelihood of a collision.

To fix the problem, DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the aluminum bolts with steel bolts, at no cost to owners.

The recall begins May 27. Owners can reach DVUSA customer service at (877) 762-8267. DVUSA's reference number for this recall is VS2SCHRALU.
