Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? Top ELD Questions Answered

Q. We were equipped with AOBRDs before the ELD Rule first went into effect, so my fleet is still using them under the AOBRD grandfather clause. I’ve added a few trucks recently. Can I add additional AOBRDs to the fleet?

A. Per guidance released early in 2018, carriers covered by the AOBRD grandfather clause can add additional AOBRDs to their fleet provided that they install ELD-capable devices using AOBRD compliant software. The ELD devices have to have the capability to be updated so they’re ELD compliant at the transition phase on Dec. 16, 2019. With less than a year left before you’ll have to transition to a fully compliant ELD, a better option to consider is starting the transition process now and begin adding ELDs to your new assets. The sooner you start, the better the chance that you’ll be in compliance come December.
