Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? ELD and Telematics

Q. I understand that I’m going to have to switch out my fleet’s AOBRDs to compliant ELDs by December 2019, but, from everything I can tell, there really isn’t anything different between them. Why do we have to go to all this trouble?

A. While in many cases a provider can make the switch from an AOBRD to an ELD solution with few if any visible differences to the fleet, the primary reason that you need to make the switch is because AOBRDs don’t meet the technical specifications set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). One of the biggest differences between the two solutions is that ELDs incorporate the ability for drivers to edit and annotate their records, giving them the ability to note why the record needed to be corrected or edited while retaining the original entry, and making them accountable for the changes to their logs.
