Q. Recently, we discovered that the dashboard odometer display didn’t match the value returned from the ECM. How should the ELD handle this lack of synchronization?

A. It is required that the ELD obtain odometer information directly from ECM and display the value at all times. In the event of a roadside inspection, safety officials will use the odometer information that is displayed on the ELD. It should be noted that any changes you make to the engine must be documented and maintained at the fleet’s place of business.
