Indian River County (Fla.) is implementing changes to its purchasing policies following accusations that an employee stole more than $300,000 worth of tires and resold them in the six years before his retirement, TCPalm reported.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Burkeen was charged with grand theft for purchasing the tires using county funds. Detectives are also investigating allegations that he used his county credit card to buy $12,000 worth of diesel fuel and $500 worth of auto parts for non-fleet use.
