Peterbilt has created a new formulation of its lineup of Axalta coatings used on its heavy-duty truck cabs and sleepers designed to enhance color qualities and durability.

The new coatings are also more environmentally friendly and reduce the company’s carbon footprint, according to Peterbilt. The coatings dry faster than the previous formulations allowing the drying ovens to operate at lower temperatures, requiring less energy. The process is faster and releases fewer emissions.

“The new paint coatings have better color characteristics for greater gloss, reflectivity and luster,” said Leon Handt, Peterbilt’s assistant general manager of operations. “Resistance to environmental damage, such as acid rain, de-icers and bird debris is also increased.”

The new formulations include both base and clear coats and are applied at Peterbilt’s Denton, Texas manufacturing facility. If aftermarket repainting or refinishing is required on a truck, it can be done through Peterbilt with the same paint formulations to ensure consistency and maintain durability.
