IMI has unveiled the Equal Flexx internal balancing compound designed to improve fuel economy, remove wheel-end vibration and increase tire mileage.

The compound can result in lower rolling resistance, more even wear and a smoother ride, according to IMI.

Equal Flexx is installed by dropping a pouch into a tire during the mounting process. The pouch breaks open, allowing the balancing compound to disperse and adjust to changes that include tire wear, vehicle load and road conditions.

“Equal Flexx reduces fuel and tire costs by removing vibration from the wheel-end,” says Bob Fogal, CEO of IMI. “This optimizes the efficiency of the entire rotating assembly.”

In private fleet testing, trucks using Equal Flexx saw fuel economy improvements over trucks operating without the compound, according to IMI. Fleets also saw tire life improvements of over 20% in testing across all wheel positions.

Equal Flexx reduces tire-related rolling resistance when compared to no balancing method and other balancing methods. Fleets can expect fuel economy improvements of 2.5% or more, IMI says. By reducing wheel-end vibration and solidifying a tire’s footprint, Equal Flexx can also increase tire take off mileage. This reduces irregular tire wear and creates less wear on the tire, the truck/trailer, and the driver.

Equal Flexx will be available in April.
