MONTREAL -- Uniroyal introduced six commercial truck tires at Montreal's Expocam truck show in mid-April. The new tire line provides an affordable choice for every wheel position and application from long haul to regional to on/off- road. Two of the tires, the RS20 and LS24, are SmartWay verified.
The Uniroyal brand is well known in the passenger car and light truck markets, but this is the first time Michelin has offered the Uniroyal name on a commercial truck tire. Michelin says it decided to launch a limited selection of the new tires in Canada because the name is well recognized in that country.
“For over 120 years, Uniroyal has provided affordable and dependable passenger and light truck tires,” said Harold Phillips, COO for Michelin North America Inc. “We are excited to bring that same value to the trucking industry. The brand has a strong following in Canada and there is demand in the lower intermediate market segment."
All Uniroyal commercial truck tires feature DuraShield construction; a combination of features that offer durability, dependability and retreadability. Three strategic features, including pyramidal steel belts, insulating belt edge strips and a heavy gauge inner liner, work together to reduce stress, promote endurance and protect the tire’s casing. Uniroyal commercial truck tires are backed by a four-year manufacturer’s limited warranty. Certain long-haul and regional applications are also covered by a one retread limited warranty. And they are made in South Carolina.
Michelin says it decided to add Uniroyal to its truck tire portfolio to address a portion of the Canadian market that has been responding to low budget import offers. By integrated the Uniroyal line into its total product offering, Uniroyal reduces the need to rely on multiple vendors, so doing business becomes easier for dealers and consumers, the company says.
"Commercial truck operators can trust Uniroyal to work as hard as they do," says Phillips. "Uniroyal offers an affordable solution that will keep them rolling with minimal downtime."
The new Uniroyal line consists of six tread designs in sizes 11R22.5 and 11R24.5:
- Uniroyal LS24 - SmartWay verified long haul steer/all-position tire
- Uniroyal LT40 - Long haul and regional trailer tire
- Uniroyal RS20 - SmartWay verified regional steer/all-position tire
- Uniroyal RD30 - Regional and long haul drive tire
- Uniroyal HS50 - On/off -road steer/all-position tire
- Uniroyal HD60 - On/off -road drive tire
Uniroyal launched the commercial lineup in Mexico in October 2014, followed by the Canadian launch in April. Michelin says the Uniroyal line will be available in the U.S. later this year.
