The new Michelin X Line Energy D tire for line haul applications is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay-designated fuel economy tire.

The Michelin X Line Energy D tire delivers SmartWay-designated fuel economy with wear resistance by using Michelin's Dual Energy Compound Tread. The top layer of tread rubber is precisely balanced to deliver fuel efficiency while still having the needed wear properties to resist tread scrub, says the company. The bottom layer of tread rubber keeps the casing cool for low rolling resistance and extended casing life.

The tire features a three-retread limited casing warranty.

The Michelin X Line Energy D tire uses Michelin's proprietary Matrix Siping Technolog, with interlocking tread action for traction and even wear. It's the first time it's been offered in a line haul energy drive tire.

The zigzag, grooved walls of the siping provide biting edges for traction and water and snow evacuation. The full-depth sipes deliver traction throughout the life of the tire's tread. Sipes and grooves bring wear performance and traction to a tread sculpture that fleet operators find attractive. The wider footprint reduces the need for more tread depth, allowing for significant mileage improvements with 23/32nds of tread depth.

The Michelin X Line Energy D tire is currently available in two sizes 11R22.5, 275/80R22.5, and will be available in sizes 11R24.5 and 275/80R24.5 during the first quarter of 2013.

Michelin also announced an agreement with TravelCenters of America, operator of TA and Petro Stopping Centers, to add to Michelin's service network. These additional TA/Petro locations will expand the total number of Michelin X One servicing locations to nearly 2,000 nationwide.
