Smokey Point Distributing, a Daseke company, has announced that Olympia, Wash.-based dedicated glass hauler Belmont Enterprises has joined the company.

The acquisition is aimed at complementing SPD’s current glass customer base and increasing its overall glass-hauling capabilities within the Daseke organization.

“There is a lot of synergy between our two companies in philosophy, customer service and ethics,” said Dan Wirkkala, president and CEO, SPD. “Belmont Enterprises began operation in the 1970s by Jack and Mary Jo Belmont with just one truck. We will add technological resources, such as our transportation management system and the consolidated purchasing power of Daseke to compliment his current operations.”

Belmont has refined the art of moving sheets of clear and coated glass, also known as STOCE, some measuring 102 inches tall by 144 inches long. The company’s unique swivel top tie-down system, which is used with its metal racks mounted on roll-top trailers, eliminates the need for ladders in loading.

“Moore Freight Service, one of the largest glass haulers in the country, recently joined the Daseke family of companies,” said Wirkkala. “There is great synergy between Belmont Enterprises and SPD, which will further assist Daseke’s focus on expanding its services to the glass industry.”
