Thirty-four drivers at the XPO Logistics facility in Albany, N.Y., filed for representation with the Local 294 chapter of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union has announced.

The drivers from the former Con-way Freight operation are planning to join XPO freight workers in Laredo, Texas, Vernon Calif., Miami, Fla., Aurora, Ill., King of Prussia, Penn., and Trenton N.J. that have already joined the Teamsters union. Warehouse workers at the XPO facility in North Haven, Conn., have also joined the union.

“The XPO workers in Albany reached out to us because they are tired of having no say on the job,” said John Bulgaro, president of Local 294 in Albany. “We look forward to helping these workers form their union and then negotiate a first contract that improves their livelihoods.”

According to the Teamsters, the drivers are seeking "decent, affordable health care and retirement security."

“Like the XPO workers in other locations, the Albany drivers are fed up with higher health care costs and reduced coverage and no voice on the job,” said Ernie Soehl, director of the Teamsters National Freight Division.
