The Canadian Trucking Alliance is asking its members to donate to the Red Cross to help thousands of people who have been affected by the Fort McMurray fire in Alberta, Canada.

The CTA has a membership of 4,500 Canadian motor carriers and will kick off the donations by contributing $12,000 to the Red Cross Alberta Fires donation appeal. The Fort McMurray Fire has displaced as many as 88,000 people and destroyed 1,600 homes, according to CNN.

"We appreciate the effort from everyone across Canada," said Gene Orlick, CTA chairperson. “It is a dire event and any help we can get is appreciated greatly.”

The CTA expects to hear from the Red Cross about possible assistance the industry could provide in the form of transportation and logistics services. CTA and its partners will work through the Red Cross and Trucks For Change Network to coordinate and attempt to fulfill these transportation requests to the Fort McMurray region.
