With its new location in Southern California this year, the Fleet Technology Expo offers attendees a chance to combine business and pleasure, say event organizers – even a family vacation.

FTX (an outgrowth of what formerly was called the Green Fleet Conference) runs Aug. 24-26 in Long Beach. Attendees can attend educational sessions on topics such as alternative fuels, lightweighting, aerodynamics, telematics and future truck technology, plus the new Fleet Technology Expo Awards presentation and a green fleet ride-n-drive.

Organizers note that there's much more to do throughot the area. Summers in Southern California are warm and sunny, with Long Beach seeing average August highs of 84 and lows of 65. Visitors can enjoy the sunshine on the beach or find fun ways to beat the heat.

For instance, about a half mile south of the convention center, within walking distance, is the Aquarium of the Pacific, home to 500 species and more than 11,000 ocean animals. It offers exhibits, presentations and shows, as well as a shark and jellyfish petting station.

Or, visitors can drive about 30 minutes south to Anaheim to visit Disneyland and Disneyland California Adventure.

More information on nearby attractions is available on the FTX website. The early registration discount ends July 24; register before then to save $100.
