Section of I-75 in Cincinnati Closed Following Bridge Collapse

A section of an old overpass collapsed Monday evening along southbound Interstate 75 in Ohio, closing a part of the route, potentially for several days.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. in Cincinnati near Exit 4 at the old Hopple Street Overpass as crews were working on its demolition.

One truck driver crashed into the rubble just moments after the collapse. He was transported to a nearby hospital with reportedly minor injuries. A construction worker was killed.

According to a statement from the city of Cincinnati, it will launch an investigation into the cause of the collapse. In a Tweet it said the section of I-75 southbound would be closed “indefinitely.”

The Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper reports a review of federal data shows the bridge had no structural problems.
