Werner Enterprises announced that it has hired more than 5,100 veterans in the last three years, surpassing a pledge it made in 2012 under the Joining Forces campaign to hire 1,000 veterans per year for the next five years.

Werner plans to continue the campaign's success in 2015 by pledging to hire 2,200 veterans and 200 veteran spouses.

Werner also brings awareness to its military apprenticeship program through Operation Freedom Fleet. In January, Werner’s fifth Freedom truck hit the road featuring a new design that includes the American flag and a military dog tag with a special message intended for those who serve in the armed forces.

Operation Freedom Fleet is a military-themed truck and trailer fleet that travels on regular freight routes and is showcased at trucking shows, recruiting events and specific veteran ceremonies.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with our progress in creating opportunities for our veterans,” said Derek Leathers, president and CEO of Werner. “From our successful hiring initiatives to our growing Operation Freedom Fleet, we remain committed to doing even better in the future.”
