Clean Energy Fuels has partnered with Mansfield Energy to form a joint venture which will provide natural gas fueling to bulk fuel haulers in the U.S.

The joint venture is called Mansfield Clean Energy Partners and was created to serve a segment of vehicles that consumes over three billion gallons of fuel every year. Mansfield’s relationships with America’s bulk fuel haulers are being leveraged to increase the venture’s potential business.

The venture’s first customer will be Mansfield Oil Company, which recently purchased and deployed 12 heavy-duty CNG trucks to haul diesel and gasoline. The fleet of CNG trucks will refuel at a new area card-lock natural gas station in Atlanta, Ga. A second filling station is expected to open in 2015 in Tampa, Fla.

MCEP is in advanced discussion with several bulk fuel trucking companies which represent potentially over 100 new heavy-duty CNG trucks. In addition to the Florida and Georgia stations, the venture will also be developing new public-access natural gas fueling stations across the nation to support these trucks.

Clean Energy has already built nearly 100 stations in the U.S. that can accommodate up to Class 8 tractors.
