Con-way Freight announced that Driver Sales Representative, Tom Strissel, surpassed the career milestone of driving 3 million consecutive, accident-free miles. Strissel, who started with Con-way in 1984, is the third of Con-way Freight’s 16,000 drivers nationwide to reach this safe-driving achievement.

He joins the company’s first 3 Million Miler, James “Jackpot” Sutfin of Las Vegas and Tom Syme of Palatine, Ill., in this club.

To put the safe-driving milestone into perspective, 3 million miles is the equivalent of driving from Portland, Maine to Portland, Ore., 941 times or running 114,504 Chicago Marathons.

Strissel has been driving professionally for 36 years. He joined Con-way Freight in June of 1984 as one of the company’s first employees, and currently works out of the company’s Mundelein service center.

He was previously recognized for 1 million and 2 million mile safety milestones, and also received the 25-year safe working award, signifying a quarter century of work at Con-way without a workplace injury or accident. He lives in Chicago, Ill., with his wife, Rose.
