The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the comment period for the proposed redesign of the Comprehensive Safety Analysis’ Safety Measurement System public website.

The website has come under fire by some trucking groups over what they believe are misrepresentations on the site when it comes to safety records and actual carrier performance.

The comment period began on Nov 5 and comments are now due by Jan 21.

For more information on the extension of the comment period, see the Dec. 17 Federal Register notice at FMCSA-2013-0392-0017.

Also in January, in response to feedback, FMCSA will update insurance information on the proposed public SMS website. A link to the agency’s Licensing and Insurance website will remain available on the page to provide easy access to detailed insurance information according to FMCSA

The FMCSA says it will continue to review and consider other comments through Federal Register notices and will provide a formal response, which may include additional changes intended to clarify and improve the display, after the comment period closes.

You can seen the new features on the SMS Preview Website at https://csa.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMSPreview/Home.aspx,  review the Federal Register notice outlining the proposed changes at https://federalregister.gov/a/2013-26543 and share your input on the proposed changes via the Federal Docket Management System http://www.regulations.gov/, using docket ID Number FMCSA-2013-26543.
