Judge Asked to Dismiss Ambassador Bridge Lawsuit

Despite agreements between the U.S., Michigan and Canadian governments, work on a second bridge connecting Detroit with Windsor, Ontario remains stalled due to litigation.

The Detroit News reports The Obama administration has asked a federal judge in Washington to throw out a three-year-old lawsuit by the owners of the Ambassador Bridge that seeks to compel the Coast Guard to grant it a permit to build a second bridge and block a new government-owned Detroit River crossing.

The problem is such a request, if granted to the administration, won’t be coming at least until near the end of the year, slowing progress on a span that supporters say is needed to expedite truck trade between the U.S. and Canada.
