Con-way Truckload has purchased 525 new tractors in a replacement cycle that it says will maintain its 2,700-tractor fleet as one of the youngest and most modern in the truckload market.

In evaluating its equipment options, the company reports it turned to its drivers to provide input and feedback on different manufacturers and models. Manufacturers were invited to stage trucks at the company’s five terminals nationwide. More than 200 drivers participated in the product review and surveys, and the majority selected the Kenworth T680 model. The addition of the 2014 Navistar ProStar was based upon positive feedback from drivers on the cab comfort and interior of the fleet’s existing 2013 models.

Con-way’s existing fleet consisted of predominately Kenworth T660s and Navistar ProStars with other makes from Freightliner, Peterbilt, Volvo and Navistar. This purchase of 525 new tractors, 325 Kenworth T680s and 200 Navistar ProStars, will allow for the retiring of the same number of tractors approaching 500,000 miles in service, which is the typical turn-in mileage for units in Con-way Truckload’s fleet.

The new units are being delivered throughout the year, with the 525th scheduled to be on the road by December.
