In what may be an unprecedented event, all the month-over-month comparisons - volume, price, miles, and age - for all weight groups of used trucks improved in July.

The update on the used market was reported in the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.

"Up until a few months ago, most dealers cited a lack of inventory as the primary factor holding them back from selling more units," reported Steve Tam, vice president-commercial vehicle sector with ACT. Concerning pricing, he added, "As if on cue, meaningful amounts of inventory started showing up in some markets."

The report from ACT provides data on the average used price for the top-selling Class 8 model for each of the major truck OEMs - Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).
