Improvements to California's I-5 corridor will cause closures, including the full closure of northbound I-5 between Valley View Avenue and Carmenita Road tonight beginning at 11:59 p.m. and continuing until 5 a.m. tomorrow, says the California Department of Transportation.
Caltrans is investing close to $1.6 billion dollars in a five-year project to improve northern segments along the I-5 between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and the Kern County line.

The northbound I-5 on-ramps at Valley View Avenue and Alondra Boulevard will also be fully closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists traveling northbound I-5 from Orange County will be detoured off the freeway at Valley View Ave. and onto Alondra Blvd. Detour signs will be posted to re-enter northbound I-5 at the Carmenita Road on-ramp. Southbound I-5 lanes and on-and off-ramps will be open.

In other work, Caltrans will continue lane closures on I-5 between Valley View Avenue and Carmenita Road on the following nights:

- Northbound and southbound: Thursday, May 24 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Northbound only: May 30-31 and June 1 (Wednesday-Friday) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Up to two lanes in each direction on I-5 will be closed while one mainline lane remains open to traffic at all times. All ramps will be open. Crews and construction equipment will be at work setting up K-rail (concrete barriers) on the shoulders. The nightly closures are weather-permitting and are subject to cancellation.

Also, a portion of Freeway Drive, a frontage road abutting northbound I-5, is fully closed in both directions between Alondra Boulevard and Marquardt Ave. This closure will continue until mid-June and is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The work involves the removal and relocation of underground utility pipelines. Local area businesses will remain open during the full street closure. Detours are posted.
