North America medium and heavy-duty GVW Classes 5-7 and Class 8 commercial vehicle preliminary net orders for January were in line with expectations, reports ACT Research Co.

ACT projects the final numbers, which will be available mid-February, will approach 25,200 units for heavy-duty Class 8 trucks and 13,500 for medium-duty Class 5-7 vehicles. The preliminary net order numbers are typically accurate to within 5% of actual.

"There were no surprises with the level of order intake in January," says Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst. "The preliminary net orders for both Classes 5-7 and Class 8 support our forecasts for production in 2012."
