The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced that its Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee will hold a three-day meeting to address distracted driving among truck drivers.

The meeting, open to the public, will take place June 8 to 10 at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Va.

FMCSA will request that MCSAC provide information, concepts, and ideas on ways to prevent distracted driving by commercial motor vehicle drivers, with a particular emphasis on in-cab technologies and activities. This will help the FMCSA to identify options for addressing driver distraction associated with certain in-cab technologies.

The request is separate from FMCSA's current rulemaking on texting and the agency's forthcoming rulemaking on the use of wireless telephones. In addition, FMCSA will seek information and ideas for consideration in updating its Strategic Plan.

The committee will hear comments from the public during the last hour of each day's meeting. On June 8, the meeting will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; June 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and June 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Eastern time.
