Landstar Appoints New Chairman of the Board

Landstar System, a non-asset based supply chain provider, has appointed Henry Gerkens as chairman of its board of directors, starting Jan. 4, 2010.

Gerkens serves as president and CEO of the company. The current chairman, Jeffrey Crowe, will remain on the company's board of directors and has been designated as chairman emeritus in honor of his many years of service.

"Henry has been an integral part of Landstar since its inception in 1988 and has done an excellent job leading the company forward for many years now," said Crowe. "His strategic vision has, and will continue to keep Landstar on the cutting edge as it moves into its next phase, providing supply chain solutions and complete global and domestic transportation services."

Gerkens joined Landstar as a vice president and chief financial officer, before moving up to executive vice president and chief financial officer in 1994. In 2000, he was elected to the board of directors. He was promoted to president and chief financial officer in 2001, and then to president and chief operating officer. In July 2004, he was named president and CEO.
