Fleet News magazine has honored Teletrac with its 2009 Fleet Van Technology Initiative of the Year Award for the company's Fleet Director7 vehicle fleet management software
.

This award recognizes technological innovation and excellence as well as the tangible benefits and impact of telematics solutions on automotive fleets of all sizes.

Fleet Director locates, tracks and monitors the position and operation of fleet vehicles, so that fleet managers can keep tabs on drivers. The system provides dispatchers with real-time tracking, route optimization and detailed reporting for advanced decision support and efficient regulatory compliance.

Fleet Director features SmartNav satellite navigation, real-time traffic information, stolen vehicle tracking and comprehensive reporting tools used to monitor mileage, vehicle use and alert managers to unauthorized use and unsafe driving behavior.

In the newest version, Garden Grove, Calif.-based Teletrac has updated its SmartNav navigation to now provide the "fastest route" navigation in real time, the company says. The system integrates the latest color touch screen technology with two-way messaging and voice-prompted navigation.

The new dynamic dispatch capability helps fleets to better manage workflow between dispatchers and drivers. This includes a new integration with third-party job ticket software products, which simplifies job ticket management and coordination between dispatchers and drivers/technicians making site visits. New features include live traffic data and estimated time of arrival integrated with job ticketing.

In addition, with the software's vehicle and driver monitoring and two-way messaging features, dispatchers are automatically alerted to unsafe driving behavior in real time.

"It is most gratifying that our continuing investment in Fleet Director technology is once again being recognized for delivering a truly unique feature set as well as real value to the market," said Drew Hamilton, executive vice president, Teletrac.
