Layover.com has purchased Truck.net, resulting in a merger of two of the oldest online information portals for truck drivers.

Layover.com has been around since 1996, providing online services to the trucking industry, including job opportunities, load boards, driver education, entertainment and product information. The site boasts about 600,000 page views per month. Truck.net has been in business since 1995, offering Internet and website design services as well as a job database and message boards.

"Both operations will realize efficiency gains from merging under one ownership," said Bruce Martin, president and CEO of Layover.com. "However, the big winners will be the truck drivers, who have come to depend on the products and services supplied by the two sites."

The acquisition contributes to Layover's growth and expands its network of online offerings, according to Martin. In May, the company entered into a marketing affiliate agreement with Anything Trucker, giving Layover.com users access to Anything Trucker's products. In 2008, Layover.com purchased MyTruckingSpace.com, a social networking site for truck drivers.
