Trash Gurl, a woman-owned recycling and waste disposal company that uses creative marketing to get attention in a mature market, is featured in Mack Truck's ninth episode of its RoadLife 2.0 series.

Trash Gurl currently operates an all-Mack, heavy-duty Class 8 fleet, including the Mack Granite roll-off and Mack LR front-end loader trucks.

Founded in 2009 by Melissa and Jeff Polutta, Trash Gurl, based in Moncks Corner, S.C., provides commercial, industrial, residential and special waste management services to the Charleston, S.C. metropolitan area.

Trash Gurl’s signature purple dumpsters and purple bodies on their Mack LR front-end loaders are complemented by the creative company name in bright-colored text. They also feature a cartoon caricature of Melissa and eye-catching sayings, like “we make trash look gud,” that have grabbed attention on social media and helped the company stand out and create buzz around a necessary industry and services that typically remain behind the scenes.

“The purple and the colors, we wanted to be bold and make a big statement,” said Melissa, Trash Gurl operations manager. “While you’re sitting in traffic you can look at our can and have a good laugh, but then when you need a dumpster, you’re going to think of us first.”

“It took me about four years to purchase a brand-new truck, and when I did, it was a Mack, and I would never consider anything else,” said Jeff, Trash Gurl general manager.

“We realize that Mack is a workhorse. It’s really good for the industry that we’re in,” said Melissa. “The guys love them. The new ones are phenomenal. They’re nicer than my car on the inside.

Trash Gurl partners with Mack dealer Hughes Motors in North Charleston, South Carolina for their new truck, parts and service needs.

“Between my salesman, the service support and the truck, that’s what has allowed us to grow as fast as we have,” said Jeff.

The Mack Granite models in Trash Gurl’s fleet feature compact component packaging that allows the hoist on the roll-off to mount tightly onto the cab, keeping the overall length short and the turning radius tight. Trash Gurl’s Granite cabs offer best-in-class ground-to-floor height, easy maneuverability and maximum visibility and comfort.
