Mack Trucks is recalling approximately 262 model-year 2019-2020 LR vehicles. The steering transfer case may have an insufficient amount of oil.

The Mack LR is the company's low-entry refuse truck. Without sufficient lubrication, the internal bearings could fail, causing steering lock-up and increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the transfer case, free of charge. Owner notifications letters were expected to be mailed on May 4, 2021. Mack's number for this recall is SC0424.

Owners may contact Mack customer service at (800) 866-1177.

Note: This article was corrected at 4 p.m. EDT to remove references to the Mack LR Electric; the recall affects diesel-powered versions of the LR, not the electric model.
