Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? Modern Telematics Best Practices.

Q. Will my U.S. ELD work in Canada?

Yes and no. Yes, your U.S. ELD will work in Canada, and U.S. drivers can operate in Canada while following Canadian HOS rules: 13 hours of driving in a 14-hour day.

However, in this case, the U.S. driver will be shown in violation by the U.S. ELD, unless the solution is also programmed with the Canadian rules, which Geotab is.

Given that log formatting requirements are different between the U.S. and Canada, Geotab is able to meet the log format requirements for both countries, seamlessly displaying these details differently per country — meaning that once a driver crosses the border, their log will reflect the new country’s requirements.
