National average diesel fuel prices were $2.39 per gallon as of Sept. 28, 2020, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
This is an approximately 3-cent drop from two week's ago with overall national average prices still down around 47 cents per gallon compared to same time last year. Prices have remained relatively stable since early May.
So far in 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of Jan. 6 and diesel prices have, on average, declined since then. Current averages are hitting the lowest prices experienced again since mid-May. National average gasoline prices have dipped slightly since late August, but still not as drastic as May prices dropped, according to the EIA.
Current average diesel prices by region have decreased week-over-week and all regional average diesel prices are still down week--over-week AND year-over-year, according to the EIA:
- East Coast: $2.47
- Midwest: $2.27
- Gulf Coast: $2.15
- Rocky Mountains: $2.34
- West Coast: $2.93
