Private fleets reported a DOT Recordable crash rate of 0.54 accidents per million miles in the National Private Truck Council's 2020 survey, an incremental increase over last year’s reported average of 0.50 accidents per million miles per million miles and the 0.49 recorded the previous year. This crash rate is roughly three times better than the industry average, according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration officials, although the agency does not report an industry average crash rate for all motor carriers.
