Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? Modern Telematics Best Practices.

Q. How can my ELD improve and reduce my costs?

A. Certainly adhering to ELD regulations will help keep your drivers in compliance and on the road, and more likely to avoid the possibility of a fleet audit, which is time consuming and potentially expensive.

But beyond that, you can use your ELD to identify the driver who is operating the vehicle. The Geotab Drive app, for example, which works in tandem with the GO device, allows drivers to sign into a vehicle, submit paperless vehicle inspection reports and receive dispatch and routing messages in real time from the fleet manager.

Driver identification helps save numerous administrative headaches and costs, including properly paying drivers through the automated logging and reporting on drivers’ hours of service (HOS).

Particularly for shared vehicles, the fleet manager will have a better understanding of any damage or driving infringements if they know who is driving the vehicle.

Having insight into who is driving the vehicle allows dispatchers to contact the correct driver directly to warn them about potentially hazardous weather or road conditions—helping keep the driver and his or her cargo safe, secure and on time. On the flipside, it’s also a way to minimize risk—and potentially ruinous liability payments—by identifying and coaching drivers who may be engaging in aggressive or other unsafe driving practices.
